This can easily be the most beautiful Montblanc pens of the 60's, and definitely one of the rarest Montblanc pen of this period. In the decade when it was made, there was only one more expensive model, the model 94 made out of solid gold, this was the second pen in that luxury line. The 84 model is one of the most luxurious pens of all two digits Montblanc pens of the 60's. This line includes the models 12, 14, 22, 24, 32, 34 , 82, 84, 92 and 94 which were launched to replace the older 3xx and 2xx series. These pens were completely new approach by Montblanc, both technologically with new materials and complete mechanical redesign, but also a new bold technology and space era inspired modern design.
When this pen was launched, it was nearly twice the price of the current Meisterstuck 149 model. The pen was designed by the famous BMW car designer Albrech Graf Goertz, who was hired by Montblanc to design the two-digit series' pens. These pens are what defined the modern pen styles of the future.
This pen is one of the best build quality pen all time. Originally, Montblanc was offering a life time warranty. The pen has the most complex build, with more than 20 parts. The pen is made out metal base and finished with thick 14K gold fill, with an extremely high shine and gloss and a body that is extremely heavy. The nib is stunning 18K 750 solid gold and bigger compared to the other nibs of this line. The nib is very precise, very sharp but flexible. This nib will produce some of the most amazing writing, with thin and tick lines on every stroke.
The pen also features a beautiful see-through yellow over blue ink window. Besides this, the front grip section is semi-transparent, in a very dark grey color. This gives the pen some unique deep mirror look instead of simply black plastic. It features Montblanc signature stars on both cap and turning knob. The pen has a perfect grip, and due to its weight has a perfect balance and feel, so it glides over the paper effortlessly. It has a Slip on/off cap for fast deployment.
The piston has been serviced and is perfectly smooth, with its original silicone cork, and takes up very good amount of ink. It was tested with water to ensure that it was working properly.
This particular pen is in near mint preowned condition. It comes with the original 1960s clam shell box and papers.
