The TWSBI ECO has become my new favorite pen. Everything about the pen just fits me perfectly. From the grip size, to the weight, to the smooth writing, it all just feels right. I'm fairly new to fountain pens, so I wasn't entirely sure I was "ready" for the piston filler. Turns out it is easy to use, holds lots of ink, and thanks to the demonstrator, it's easy to tell when to refill the pen. Sure beats unscrewing the body to check the cartridge or converter.
The Eco is, for me, a good purchase. The EF nib is smooth and the balance of the pen in my hand is comfortable. When posted I can definitely notice a shift in the weight, but that is not negative--it's not heavily back-weighted but it is noticeable. Although it is a longer pen than I look for (I have a Diamond Mini with an EF nib and that's what I'd call perfect for me), the Eco will be used often. One thing that has affected it's performance is the ink. I loaded it with TWSBI Midnight blue and it's a very wet ink, making the line appear more like a medium. A different ink gives an expected fine line. That's not a complaint about the pen!
This is a great, well-balanced, satisfying pen. The nib that came with it, though, was scratchy. Very scratchy. Mechanical-pencil scratchy. I contacted TWSBI directly to ask if I might have gotten a defective nib, and they said they outsource their nibs, and thus have no control over QC. They sent me a replacement nib that was somewhat less scratchy, but I had to pay for shipping. Not Truphae's fault--they're a great retailer. But budget an extra $4 for shipping for a replacement nib in case you get a bad one.
TWSBI Eco Fountain Pen
These pen write so well, and have a nice weight to them in my hand. They are easy to fill with ink, and they hold a lot of it.
