This is my third HongDian pen, and for good reason. These pens are pretty well-constructed, sturdy, and they look amazing -- both stylish and professional, particularly the all-black and blue.
They write pretty well out of the box and come with a converter! For that price, what's not to love? I always recommend these as gifts, especially for people just getting started with fountain pens.
These pens are weighty considering their size (as they're all metal), but not heavy at all. They may be a little too slim for some people, particularly if you have larger hands.
The only downside is the lack of nib options, but these pens are so great that's an incredibly minor thing. I did get one with tines that came way too tight, but it took me all of a few seconds to push them so they were just right. No complaints!
I have four of these pens, with two more on the way! It has become my EDC (Every Day Carry) and one of them goes everywhere my sketch book goes. The weight is nice for a long period of drawing. The lines are smooth and the ink flows nicely. Because of the low cost, I'm not concerned about something happening to it, whether it is being dropped, forgotten or lost, I'd miss it, but I have backups. I also have no qualms about letting someone else borrow it, the nib is sturdy enough not to get bent by a heavy hand. I've done hundreds of drawing with mine (Look for me on Instagram, or check out the video link -> Https://youtu.be/w-ZgK8sKrpg ). Never had a leak or drip, the converter is nice and allows me to experiment with different inks.
I love this pen. I have it is three colors because I love it so much. Black, Cobalt Blue and Purple. And it writes great with a fine nib.
Hongdian Black Forest Fountain Pen
I just received my Hongdian Black Forest today, popped in a hero 359 ink cartridge (I think parker cartridges would also fit) and in a few minutes was enjoying the heft and a smooth writing experience for what seems like an extra-fine nib. I am really glad I ordered this pen, its included converter is nice, and I will probably use it with bottled ink eventually, but the convenience of cartridge fill at work means I will run with those for a while at least. Thanks to Truphae for making this available at a reasonable price!
