Very few examples of the 1st Generation Savannah Green Safari are still available in the world. LAMY produced a small quantity of the pen in 1980, having no idea how wildly popular it would become! It is now known as the best selling fountain pen in the world. This is the first Safari produced in 1980, and is known as the 1st Generation of the Safari as there are no markings on the bottom of the barrel to indicate the country of manufacturer. Later models had "Germany" or "W. Germany" inscribed on the bottom. These were also offered with plain black nibs which were not stamped with the LAMY logo.
This particular example is in mint pre-owned condition. It comes without the original boxes and papers, and has a crack in the inner cap, so it does not snap closed. This is usually an easy fix for LAMY, so if the buyer would like, we can work with them to get this repaired. As many people prefer the examples to be 100% original, we have chosen to leave the repair up to the end buyer.
The LAMY Safari is a workhorse pen, known throughout the fountain pen community for its ruggedness, reliability, and no-nonsense functionality. The triangular grip makes it great for those starting out who have no idea how to hold a fountain pen, but it's used and loved by fountain pen lovers of all levels of experience.
Note: To ensure quality performance, LAMY tests their pens as a final step in manufacturing. If you happen to see any residual blue ink, rest assured that this is normal.
