One of the most unique finishes in the pen world, the rOtring Lava features a gritty black body that feels porous - thus the "lava" name. It's a bit of a smoother fell than one may think. It has been likened to the grip tape on a skateboard. This was a limited run fountain pen that was produced from the late 1990s into the early 2000s.
With a stainless steel nib that is immaculately polished, the biggest selling point for the pen are the cap guides. It has a snap-style cap, but there are guides around the top of the grip section that ensure that the facets of the body and cap line up perfectly each time the pen is capped. These guides do show a bit of light wear, as well as some wear on the clip, but the pen is still in magnificent condition with little to no wear to the body or end caps. It is a real treasure that is becoming increasingly difficult to find.
