The Visconti Movements is a Truphae Exclusive, limited edition fountain pen series that commemorates various time periods in art history.
High Renaissance art, which flourished for about 35 years, from the early 1490s to 1527, featured such artists as Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo. This time period in art was noted for featuring a great deal of portraits, and depictions of human form. Deep brown tones are prevalent, especially with paintings such as Portrait of a Young Man by Raphael.
The Visconti Renaissance Art fountain pen is a limited production (not numbered) of just 70 pieces. It features a rich brown tortoise-toned body, and is fitted with ruthenium plated trim. It is a cartridge converter filled pen, which feeds into a ruthenium plated, stainless steel nib.
This is truly a beautiful pen to behold. The reddish-brown swirls of the resin are complex and subtle. The closer one looks at this pen, the more the quality of the materials and finishes becomes apparent. The nib is stiff, as you might expect, but writes well, and I do not really mind the metal grip section, which I usually avoid at all costs when purchasing a pen due to sweaty fingers.
Unfortunately, I could not give this pen fives stars due to its start-up issues. If the pen is left capped for even a very short amount of time, then the nib dries out and the ink flow has to be coaxed back to life. I have heard that this can be an issue with Visconti's magnetic cap closure system and I believe that to be the case here.
Overall, a great pen with an unfortunate quirk.
