With Zepp, Diplomat affirms its virtuosity in the field of exceptional writing instruments. Produced in a limited edition of 500 copies, this metal pen is made up of around twenty pieces of aluminum and brass.

Entirely assembled by hand, it is distinguished by an ambitious design inspired by iconic innovations of the contemporary era. The clip and the ends of the Zepp, in finely chiseled brass, create ornate laces that renew the waking dream of metallic architecture: Bridges, museums, covered markets, and train stations. The trims are made of 3D casted brass, and the clip is spring-loaded for ease of use.

The body and grip are made of anodized aluminum to reinforce its resistance to impact and wear. The oblong 12-faceted structure, whose matte and refined finish contrasts with the gold shine of the trim, recalls the shape of the zeppelin, the mythical airship of the first decades of the 20th century.

Both modern and timeless, witness to an endlessly renewed creativity, Zepp reveals all the depth of the know-how of our nearly century-old house. Like all Diplomat writing instruments, the Zepp is handcrafted in Germany, in our workshops, where around fifteen people assemble and test each object with relentless attention and precision.

The individual limited edition number is discreetly engraved below the clip. The pen features a two-tone smooth writing #6 JoWo 14kt gold nib and fills via standard international cartridge/converter (both are included).

It comes in a luxury matte black box with a magnetic system closure. The carved metal plate on the top is a reminder of the Zepp concept. A leaflet and guarantee card are inserted into the box.

Sublime

Except for the fact that I went in the opposite direction from the previous reviewer and chose an extra fine nib width (and that my limitation number is different, of course), everything in the previous review applies here! There is just something ineffably sublime about the contrast of the delicate gold-finished latticework with the almost brutalist, substantial dodecahedral anodised aluminum body. The service from Truphae is equally sublime.

I chose the Gold trim Broad nib. First off this pen comes in a out 2 piece black matt textured box. Open the box and you find white tissue paper wrapped around the inner presentation box. Flip down the front side of the outer box and remove the inner presentation box. The presentation box is black hardwood finish with a aluminum insert on the top of the lid with pieces lazer cut out to make it appear there is a zeppelin on the cover. Also says Diplomat Zepp Limited Edition. Open the cover and you see this stunning 14kt gold two tone nib Diplomat Zepp fountain pen resting in a dark grey deep rich feeling cloth with a matching band to keep the pen nestled in place. Then there is a pouch which has a pleated stretch to keep papers etc inside. The lid is attached by a silver colored metal hinge on each side. The box lid stays closed with the aid of a two piece magnetic button in the middle of the lid and the box. Just the box alone says you are going to be holding a fantastic pen in your hands. My pen is number 65 of 500. Twist the barrel from the cap with such a smooth feeling. The facets of the barrel and cap always aligned when you put the barrel and cap back together. When you go to fill the pen with ink you will feel resistance and squeezing sound. This is from the o-ring that keeps everything secure. Closing it you will feel the same thing. A very satisfying feeling. I have not inked the pen yet as I just received it a couple of hours ago. I really want to choose the right ink for this pen as is truly deserves just the right ink. Time and talent was given in designing and manufacturing this pen. If you have read other reviews I have done in the past I don't go into great detail like I did about this pen. This pen as of right now gets AAA+ from me.
