Montegrappa Bijo-To-Yaju Limited Edition Fountain Pen – Handcrafted Japanese-Inspired Design

Step into a world where fairy tale and fine art meet. The Montegrappa Bijo-To-Yaju is a limited-edition luxury writing instrument that reimagines Beauty and the Beast through the lens of traditional Japanese culture. A collaboration with celebrated designer Tomita Kazuhiko, this masterful creation blends craftsmanship, symbolism, and storytelling into one extraordinary pen.

Inspired by Kabuki theatre, Kintsugi repair techniques, and Japanese woodblock prints, the Bijo-To-Yaju features a sculptural acrylic body adorned with interpretations of the merchant’s ship, the enchanted castle, a single rose, and the star-crossed lovers. Gold enamel relief separates these chapters like veins of golden lacquer, paying homage to the Japanese art of “golden repair.”

Unlike any pen before it, the Bijo-To-Yaju defies traditional conventions:

  • Clipless design

  • Upright display orientation

  • Substantial heft for a bold presence

The pen’s cap and base feature the fierce yet noble Shishi (lion-dog), the Japanese counterpart to the Beast, rendered in intricate vermeil using lost-wax casting. These sculptural elements echo Montegrappa’s legendary editions like the Dragon (1995) and Kitcho (2021).

A delicate vermeil golden key, inspired by Jean Cocteau’s 1946 film, sits atop the barrel—paired with a matching lock in the cap band—a symbolic nod to the themes of forbidden love.
