The Caran d'Ache Ecridor Ballpoint Pen - Venetian Palladium transforms the collection's iconic hexagonal body through a finely textured surface inspired by the movement of water through Venice. Palladium-coated metal catches the light across countless engraved impressions, creating a finish that shifts between soft silver, brilliant highlights, and subtle shadow.
The Venetian Pattern
The Venetian design was developed through a precision diamond-engraving process that gives the brass body a finely hammered appearance. Rather than repeating a rigid geometric motif, the texture moves irregularly across all six faces of the pen, recalling the gentle ripples of the narrow canals that define Venice.
Several tapered diamond tools are used to reproduce the pattern with carefully controlled depth. The result has the visual character of hand-worked jewelry while preserving the crisp architecture of the Ecridor silhouette. Palladium plating emphasizes the cool brilliance of the engraved surface and gives the pen a clean, contemporary character.
An Icon of Swiss Design
The Ecridor began as a mechanical pencil in 1947, followed by the ballpoint version in 1953. Its hexagonal body reflects the design language long associated with Caran d'Ache pencils and the Fixpencil, while its streamlined proportions recall the architectural clarity of the Art Deco period.
Each Ecridor is designed and produced in the Caran d'Ache workshops in Geneva. The six-sided body is more than a recognizable visual signature: it provides a stable, controlled grip and offers six individual surfaces for the Maison's precision engraving.
Writing Experience
The polished push-button mechanism extends the writing point with the precise tactile action expected from Swiss manufacturing. The pen is fitted with a Caran d'Ache Goliath Medium black refill, known for its smooth, consistent ink delivery and exceptional writing capacity.
A single Goliath refill can produce up to approximately 600 A4 pages of writing. Replacement refills are available in several point sizes and ink colors, allowing the Ecridor to remain a practical daily instrument long after its original cartridge is exhausted.
