Some pens are so cleverly designed that it takes a moment to appreciate just how clever they really are. The LAMY Swift is one of them.
At first glance, the Swift is a simple retractable rollerball pen with a fun trick: when you push the button to extend the tip, the clip retracts into the barrel and becomes flush with the rest of the pen. It's fun to watch and solves the small annoyance of having to hold the pen so that the clip doesn't rub against your hand, but it serves a more important role as well. It means that the tip can't extend when the pen is clipped to your pocket. And that means never having to worry about an ink-stained shirt ever again.
The rest of the pen is a shining example of LAMY's Bauhaus-inspired design philosophy too. It is well balanced with a perfectly weighted and reassuringly sturdy metal body. The barrel has a pleasant satin finish that hides fingerprints and gives the pen a hint of grip. And a series of precisely drilled holes reveal a hint of the shining metal beneath the barrel and provide an effective, minimalist grip section.
Compatible with the LAMY M66 Rollerball Refill - available for separate purchase in black, blue, green, and red.
The LAMY Swift had been on my wishlist for quite some time, and I'm glad that I took a chance to buy it. It writes smooth, has a high quality construction, and the color (Imperial Blue) is pleasing to the eye. I'm thankful to have it in my collection!
