David Oscarson Carl Linnaeus Fountain Pen – Black Moss
The David Oscarson Carl Linnaeus Fountain Pen – Black Moss is a refined tribute to the father of modern taxonomy, Carl Linnaeus, whose work brought order and structure to the natural world. As the nineteenth collection in the David Oscarson series, this edition interprets botanical beauty through some of the most demanding decorative techniques in contemporary penmaking.
The Black Moss colorway is particularly rich and atmospheric, featuring deep translucent black enamel layered over multi-level guilloché engraving. As light moves across the surface, the engraved patterns beneath emerge subtly through the enamel, creating a sense of depth that feels almost organic. This effect is further enhanced by intricate botanical motifs rendered in multiple enamel colors, reflecting Linnaeus’ lifelong study of plant life and natural classification.
Each pen begins as solid .925 sterling silver and 18K gold components, meticulously engraved using traditional guilloché techniques. Multiple layers of glass-based hard enamel are then applied by hand, with each layer kiln-fired and polished repeatedly. This labor-intensive process results in a luminous, glass-like finish with remarkable clarity and dimensionality—hallmarks of David Oscarson’s work.
At the writing end, the pen is fitted with a precision 18K gold nib, engineered in Heidelberg, Germany, and paired with an ebonite feed for smooth, consistent ink flow. The nib offers a refined writing experience that balances softness and control, making it suitable for both expressive writing and everyday use.
The pen features David Oscarson’s versatile filling system, accommodating cartridge, converter, or eyedropper filling, giving collectors flexibility without compromising performance.
As with all pieces in the Carl Linnaeus collection, the Black Moss edition is produced in extremely limited numbers. Each color variation is limited to just 70 pieces worldwide (combined fountain pen and rollerball production), ensuring a high level of exclusivity for collectors.
Elegant, symbolic, and deeply rooted in both science and artistry, the Carl Linnaeus Black Moss Fountain Pen stands as a testament to the beauty of nature interpreted through master-level craftsmanship.
