The David Oscarson Celestial Fountain Pen in Golden Yellow & Midnight Blue channels day and night into a luminous study of light, color, and pattern. Presented as a limited edition, it unites the brand's signature engine-turned guilloche and kiln-fired vitreous enamel on sterling silver to create a striking, enduring work of functional art.
Craftsmanship & Design
Built on solid sterling silver, the Celestial features intricate guilloche engraving that plays beneath layers of translucent and opaque hot enamel. Golden yellow fields glow with warmth, while midnight blue panels offer depth and quiet contrast, revealing the engraving's geometry as it catches the light. Each enamel layer is carefully fired and polished to achieve exceptional clarity and dimension, producing a surface that is both richly colored and remarkably durable.
Every detail reflects considered artistry, from the precise engine-turning to the seamless transitions between hues. The result is a refined, architectural composition that reads as both contemporary and timeless, with a palette that evokes dawn and night sky in equal measure.
Writing Experience
An 18k gold nib provides a smooth, responsive line with the balanced elasticity prized by enthusiasts. Available in fine, medium, or broad, it pairs with a reliable cartridge/converter filling system for versatility at the desk or in a travel journal. The natural heft of sterling silver lends presence in the hand without overwhelming control, supporting a steady, unforced pace on the page.
Brand Heritage
Since its founding, David Oscarson has advanced traditional engine-turning and vitreous enamel techniques within modern writing instruments, producing limited editions that foreground craft integrity and material excellence. The Celestial continues that lineage, demonstrating the brand's dedication to complex guilloche work, layered enameling, and thoughtful color studies that reward close inspection.

I first discovered the David Oscarson Celestial (Golden Yellow & Midnight Blue) on Truphae’s website quite a while ago and admired it from afar, knowing it was probably beyond my reach. Then in October 2025 I saw the pen in person for the first time at the Empire State Pen Show. Holding it only deepened my admiration. Still, it felt extravagant, and I walked away thinking, “Maybe someday.”
Fast forward to the Baltimore Pen Show in March 2026. I had two other grail pens in mind that day, but I couldn’t find either of them. Meanwhile, that Celestial I had admired months earlier was still sitting in Truphae’s case. I walked past it several times but never quite approached.
Then David Oscarson himself arrived to set up his table.
After giving him a few minutes to settle in, I introduced myself and he greeted me warmly. He was incredibly gracious and spent time talking with me about his work and the craftsmanship behind his pens. Meeting the artist behind a piece like this added a whole new dimension to the experience.
I mentioned the Celestial to him and he immediately said, “That’s the last one.” He also offered that if I decided to purchase it, he would be happy to sign the certificate and show me a few things about the pen.
After that conversation I stepped away and found a quiet corner where I had a long heart-to-heart conversation with ChatGPT about what had just happened. What ultimately tipped the scales for me was realizing that I had recently received a work bonus. While the pen is certainly a splurge, it was no longer completely out of reach.
So I returned to Truphae and asked for their best price. They gave me a fair offer, I accepted, and the rest is history.
When the pen was ready, I brought it back to David Oscarson. He beautifully inscribed the certificate of authenticity, showed me some details about the stamping and construction, and even swapped the standard silver converter for a gold one. We took a few photos together, and what began as a pen I admired from afar became one of the most memorable purchases of my collecting journey.
The Celestial is far more than a writing instrument—it’s a remarkable piece of craftsmanship and art. Thanks to Truphae and the opportunity to meet David Oscarson himself, the story behind this pen makes it even more special.
