The LAMY Joy Strawberry with a fine nib completely surprised me in the best way. The nib is exceptionally smooth, and what really stands out is how consistently it writes at virtually every angle. Some fountain pens become scratchy or lose flow when your grip shifts slightly, but this one stays reliable and fluid no matter how casually or precisely I write. Line consistency is excellent, with clean, controlled output that makes everyday writing genuinely enjoyable.
My only real criticism is that this pen is a bit too light for my personal preference. My benchmark for perfect balance is the PILOT Vanishing Point Decimo, while the matte black PILOT Vanishing Point is a little too heavy for sketching or even long writing sessions. The LAMY Joy sits on the opposite end of that spectrum — featherlight to the point where it loses a bit of tactile satisfaction in the hand.
That said, it’s important to keep the price category in perspective. The PILOT VP line is in a completely different tier financially, and when judged within its own class, the LAMY is hard to beat. The writing experience punches far above its price point. If you value smoothness, forgiving nib performance, and dependable ink flow, this pen delivers in a way that feels almost unfair for the cost.
