The Pelikan Souveran M815 Metal Stripe fountain pen blends the iconic M800-size silhouette with a distinctive, metal-inlaid barrel that introduces a satisfying sense of weight and a refined, architectural shimmer. Precision German engineering, a reliable piston-filling system, and an 18k gold nib come together in a design that feels confidently substantial without losing Pelikan's hallmark balance.
Craftsmanship & Design
At a glance, the deep black resin cap and section anchor the pen's clean lines, while the striped barrel reveals finely set metal inlays that catch light with understated elegance. Polished metal trim and Pelikan's signature beak clip complete a familiar Souveran profile, yet the tactile density of the M815 sets it apart in hand. The screw-cap mechanism operates with reassuring precision, and the overall fit and finish reflect Pelikan's long-standing attention to detail.
The metal-enhanced barrel subtly shifts the center of gravity toward the grip, giving writers a more grounded feel during longer sessions. It is a thoughtful evolution of the classic Souveran aesthetic for those who appreciate added presence without visual excess.
Writing Experience
The 18k gold nib is tuned in Germany for a smooth, dependable line with Pelikan's characteristic ink flow. Offered in extra fine, fine, medium, and broad, it accommodates tight annotations, everyday correspondence, or expressive signatures with equal poise. The internal piston draws ink effortlessly and provides generous capacity, encouraging steady, uninterrupted writing from first sentence to final flourish.
In use, the M815's added mass translates to a stable cadence on the page. The section geometry and gentle threads promote comfort, while the nib's subtle responsiveness rewards a relaxed hand and consistent angle.
Brand Heritage
Pelikan's Souveran line has long served as a benchmark for German piston-fill design, uniting timeless styling with practical, serviceable mechanics. The M815 Metal Stripe fountain pen extends that legacy, offering collectors and enthusiasts a distinctive take on the classic stripe with modern materials and enduring reliability.

Truphae got a shipment of the reissue of the 2018 Black Metal Stripe which I've admired for years. Other colors of the metal stripe have come out since then, but I think the original black version is the most striking. I got the Fine nib which like most Pelikan runs large, so it writes a Medium line. Definitely a pricey pen but this pen whispers understated elegance to me.
Great writing tools. Beautiful design...
