This LAMY 2000, LAMY's flagship fountain pen, is made of brushed stainless steel. This pen features a hooded rhodium-plated 14k gold nib and uses a piston-filling mechanism to fill from bottled ink. The LAMY 2000 is so revered that it is on permanent display at the Museum of Modern Art and has won countless design awards.

Note: To ensure quality performance, LAMY tests their pens as a final step in manufacturing. If you happen to see any residual blue ink, rest assured that this is normal.

Worth its weight

Bottom Line- Lamy 2000 Stainless Steel version (EF) is a pen worth the purchase.

The Lamy 2000 Stainless Steel version is firstly a simple yet elegant pen with a sleek look and smooth feel when grasped. The capping/uncapping of the pen is an unexpected satisfying experience. The pen (especially when capped) is heavier than many are most to however this writer fees that it adds a dimension of warranted respect for the pen itself. Filing the pen is simple, and the first writing after a fresh filling is extremely wet, so keep that in mind. But after the pen has sat with ink and been dried of excess ink, the writing experience is smooth (extra fine nib) and glides across all types of paper this writer has encountered as of yet.

Is the pen worth the price tag?
If you feel that you can keep up with the pen (not lose) and write often it is indeed a worthwhile purchase. Compared to a Lamy Safari (EF) the line on the 2000 (EF) is slightly wider, but altogether a much better writing experience. Compared to a Jinhao vanishing point (Medium) the 2000 (EF) is noticeably thinner.

I've come around on it

I was put off at first because it's unwieldy. It's heavy and smooth and requires more attention to use than my other pens. But I like that about it. It feels formidable.

Sometimes, I just stare at it and imagine flying it through space.

Great pen

Great balance and smoothest nib ever! Excellent quality. This fountain pen writes great although the line is a little bit thicker than others extra-fine nib, if I compare it, for example, with my Lamy LX, my Pilot Vanishing Point and my Sailor 1911S.
