The LAMY AL-Star Special Edition (Aubergine) is a neat, attractive pen that offers great value for its price. The metallic eggplant body is very pretty and pairs perfectly with the black nib for a sleek look.
While it isn't a luxury instrument, the broad steel nib is remarkably smooth, providing a wet and consistent line that glides across the paper. It is a reliable, lightweight workhorse that performs well as a daily writer without being overly flashy.
This pen was exactly what I wanted, a sturdy and visually pleasing pen. The neon grip isn't at all distracting, and provides a cyberpunk feel to the color combination. The medium nib is wet and precise, and I'm very happy with my purchase, the shipping process and packaging (the simple Lamy collapsible cardboard sleeve).
