Montegrappa Ilie Nastase Retro 73 Fountain Pen
The Ilie Nastase pen collection is the newest addition to Montegrappa's icons series which celebrates: artists, musicians, writers, athletes and those individuals, who reigned supreme in their field.
Ilie Nastase joins the ranks of Montegrappa icons because of the mere fact that he is professional tennis' original bad boy and champion from the 1970s.
The pens are offered as a fountain pen and rollerball. The pen's body is crafted using a light-colored wood to resemble the tennis racquets of the Nastase era and features his signature in red. The trim is dark blue resin wile the final junction just before the nib is trimmed in the colors of the Romanian flag signifying Nastase's characteristic elastic wrist band that he wore during his matches.
Using the lost wax method, the unique signature clip and cap top are cast in silver in the form of tennis racquet. The webbing rotates, showing a tennis ball making contact with the racquet, while the obverse side shows Ilie's mid-finger gesture which is a typical feature of his more nervous moments. The cap is topped covered in brown perforated leather reminiscent of the vintage tennis racquet grips. Both the rollerball and fountain pen feature sterling silver trim. The piston-fed fountain showcases an 18k gold nib that is engraved with the Montegrappa octagon pattern.
The pens in Nastase collection is limited to 780 fountain pens to correspond with the number that he won in male singles category and there are 478 rollerball pens in accordance with the number of his doubles victories.
