David Oscarson Celestial Fountain Pen – Golden Yellow & Midnight Blue

The David Oscarson Celestial Fountain Pen celebrates the grandeur of the cosmos through exquisite craftsmanship and symbolic design. This Golden Yellow & Midnight Blue edition captures the brilliance of the stars against the deep expanse of night, combining artistry, heritage, and fine writing into one remarkable work of art.

Crafted from solid sterling silver, the pen is adorned with intricate guilloché engraving overlaid with layers of translucent hot enamel. The deep midnight blue enamel evokes the boundless night sky, while the radiant golden yellow accents represent the stars, constellations, and light breaking through the darkness. The play of color and engraved patterns creates a sense of movement and depth, much like the heavens themselves.

Gold-plated trim, including the clip and cap rings, provides additional warmth and elegance. At its core, the Celestial pen is fitted with a finely tuned 18k gold nib to ensure a writing experience as smooth and expressive as its design. The cartridge/converter filling system (converter included) allows for the flexibility of bottled ink or standard international cartridges, making it as practical as it is artistic.

Produced in limited numbers, the Celestial Fountain Pen is a tribute to both human creativity and the wonder of the universe. As with all David Oscarson creations, it is handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, blending the ancient techniques of guilloché and hot enamel with modern precision.

When the Stars Finally Aligned

I first discovered the David Oscarson Celestial (Golden Yellow & Midnight Blue) on Truphae’s website quite a while ago and admired it from afar, knowing it was probably beyond my reach. Then in October 2025 I saw the pen in person for the first time at the Empire State Pen Show. Holding it only deepened my admiration. Still, it felt extravagant, and I walked away thinking, “Maybe someday.”

Fast forward to the Baltimore Pen Show in March 2026. I had two other grail pens in mind that day, but I couldn’t find either of them. Meanwhile, that Celestial I had admired months earlier was still sitting in Truphae’s case. I walked past it several times but never quite approached.

Then David Oscarson himself arrived to set up his table.

After giving him a few minutes to settle in, I introduced myself and he greeted me warmly. He was incredibly gracious and spent time talking with me about his work and the craftsmanship behind his pens. Meeting the artist behind a piece like this added a whole new dimension to the experience.

I mentioned the Celestial to him and he immediately said, “That’s the last one.” He also offered that if I decided to purchase it, he would be happy to sign the certificate and show me a few things about the pen.

After that conversation I stepped away and found a quiet corner where I had a long heart-to-heart conversation with ChatGPT about what had just happened. What ultimately tipped the scales for me was realizing that I had recently received a work bonus. While the pen is certainly a splurge, it was no longer completely out of reach.

So I returned to Truphae and asked for their best price. They gave me a fair offer, I accepted, and the rest is history.

When the pen was ready, I brought it back to David Oscarson. He beautifully inscribed the certificate of authenticity, showed me some details about the stamping and construction, and even swapped the standard silver converter for a gold one. We took a few photos together, and what began as a pen I admired from afar became one of the most memorable purchases of my collecting journey.

The Celestial is far more than a writing instrument—it’s a remarkable piece of craftsmanship and art. Thanks to Truphae and the opportunity to meet David Oscarson himself, the story behind this pen makes it even more special.
