Named for the city where Richard Esterbrook settled his company, the Camden Collection speaks to a time in the 1930’s when Camden, NJ was at its most prosperous and home to some of the most important innovations of its day. Perhaps most famously, it was the birthplace of RCA Victor where, in 1933, an experimental TV station broadcast would be the first signs of technology that would ultimately eclipse the radio.  As RCA was producing millions of records, Esterbrook was producing millions of pens. One can almost still hear the sounds of the production belts humming along.

Now, this dignified American town of the early twentieth century translates to an equally classic yet modern pen. As records have made their comeback in the last decade, so too, has the American fountain pen. Produced in three colors, Rose, Graphite Black, and Silver, with bright silver hardware, the Camden is streamlined and sleek. Designed for ultimate comfort when writing, the pen features a contoured grip section and  a satin-like finish with a grain that harkens to the grooves on a record. The pen is balanced with a weight that feels substantial without feeling like heavy metal. Whether you are penning daily notes, journaling, planning, or writing the next great tune for the American songbook, the Camden will become a standard in your collection.

This rose pink brushed anodized aluminum fountain pen comes with a Schmidt #6 steel nib, and the cushion closure cap closes with a slight twist. It fills via standard international converter or ink cartridge, both of which are included. It comes presented in a grey fabric gift box with the Esterbrook logo.

Excellent Esterbrook

I received my Camden (M nib) as part of the excellent inkcredible box. While not the biggest fan of pink, I did receive it close to Valentines Day, so I can appreciate the consideration that goes into putting the monthly boxes together. The pen uses a wonderful Schmidt nib, which I love from some of my Benu pens. The body is built very sturdy and is very light for a metal pen. The one interesting part of this pen is the cap. It takes some getting use to because it is pressure sensitive with a twist. To secure the cap, you must put downward force toward the pen before screwing on. This ensures a secure closure for the nib, which I feel does a great job. There have been times however, when I would unscrew the cap in haste and the cap would almost fly out of my hand.

Overall, this is a wonderful pen that writes amazingly well. To me, a 5 star rating would mean a flawless score. I would score this pen as a 4 star due to the cap taking some extra care to put on and take off, as well as the color (totally subjective.... I know.....).

Thanks Truphae for surprising me with a great pen I would have otherwise overlooked!
