Smooth As glass

The Lamy 14 K nib really ups the writing experience for my Lamy Al Star. The nib is exceptionally smooth (think Pelican M800/M1000). The line width for my fine is much wider than the steel fine. I really like this nib! I’m intrigued to try an extra fine nib now.

Total game changer. The nib is bouncy and requires very little pressure to write, while ch is perfect for me because I am light handed.

Lamy Gold Nib in Fine

Wonderfully smooth - writes beautifully. A marked change from the standard steel. I’ve been using these in my daily writer Lamy pens (Accent, Aion, etc.

Lamy 14k nib

Big mistake!! Now, I’m going to have to slowly acquire all of the other sizes in this nib! Takes your Lamy Safari, AL-Star, or in my case, an LX to the next level. Sorry if you buy one based on this review…..and really sorry when you buy more.

Retains the Lamy Horizontal Feel—Smoother Vertical Feel

The gold nib is definitely smoother on vertical strokes; however, strokes made in the horizontal plane are reminiscent of the standard Lamy nibs. That’s just the way Lamy nibs are cut, I suppose.

Another feature is that the gold nib leaves more ink on the page than the standard. My gold mediums lay down ink more like my standard broad nib. I say more LIKE, but not quite. In other words, my gold medium nibs put down a line that, in terms of width, falls between a standard medium and a standard broad.

The gold nib is springier than a standard nib. This I believe contributes to the overall smoothness of the writing experience.

I put gold nibs on my Aion and my Studio—two aluminum pens worthy of upgrading—but the Safari looks nice with a gold nib as well.
