The LAMY 2000 Pine Green Limited Edition Fountain Pen reinterprets one of the most important modern writing instruments ever created through a deep forest-green finish. Released in celebration of the LAMY 2000's 58th anniversary, the Pine edition preserves Gerd A. Müller's original Bauhaus-influenced design while giving its familiar Makrolon body a rich, understated new color.

The result is immediately recognizable as a LAMY 2000, yet distinctly different from the traditional black version. Its dark green surface shifts subtly with the light, allowing the brushed texture of the material to remain visible while adding an unusually warm, organic character to one of the most disciplined industrial designs in fountain pen history.

An Icon of Modern Design

The LAMY 2000 was introduced in 1966 and designed by Gerd A. Müller, whose approach reflected the principles of modernist industrial design: reduce an object to what is essential, allow function to dictate form, and remove unnecessary ornament.

That philosophy remains visible throughout the pen. The transition from barrel to piston knob is nearly invisible. The hooded nib emerges from the streamlined section without disrupting the silhouette. Even the snap-cap mechanism is integrated with minimal visual interruption. Rather than adding decorative elements to communicate luxury, the LAMY 2000 relies on proportion, material, and engineering.

The Pine Green Edition

For the Pine Limited Edition, LAMY replaces the familiar black body with dark green Makrolon, a fiberglass-reinforced polycarbonate known for its strength, light weight, and distinctive brushed surface. The texture is integral to the identity of the LAMY 2000, helping the body resist the slick feel of highly polished resin while giving the pen an unusually tactile character.

The Pine color is restrained rather than bright. In lower light it can appear nearly black, while stronger illumination reveals the forest-green tone beneath the brushed finish. This makes the edition feel unusually subtle for a limited release and preserves the minimalist character that has defined the model for decades.

Makrolon and Stainless Steel

The LAMY 2000 is particularly known for the way Makrolon and stainless steel are visually integrated. The brushed body flows into the stainless-steel front section with remarkably little interruption, while the polished clip provides the strongest contrast in the design.

For the Pine edition, LAMY uses a polished stainless-steel clip manufactured through metal injection molding, a process that allows complex metal components to be formed with exceptional consistency. The gleaming clip stands out against the matte green body without compromising the pen's otherwise restrained appearance.

The Hooded 14k Gold Nib

Beneath the streamlined stainless-steel hood sits one of the LAMY 2000's most recognizable technical features: a partially concealed 14k gold nib. The nib is platinum coated, giving it a cool silver appearance that visually merges with the metal section surrounding it.

The hooded construction allows only the writing point and a small portion of the nib to remain visible. This reinforces the pen's minimalist appearance while helping reduce ink evaporation around the nib during short pauses in writing.

LAMY 2000 nibs are known for producing a smooth, generous line, with broader sizes often displaying a slightly stubbish character that gives handwriting subtle natural variation.

Piston Filling

The Pine edition retains the internal piston-filling mechanism that has been central to the LAMY 2000 since its introduction. Turning the nearly invisible piston knob draws bottled fountain pen ink directly into the barrel, providing substantial ink capacity without requiring cartridges or a removable converter.

The filling system is particularly elegant because the engineering is almost entirely concealed. When closed, the piston knob appears to be part of the uninterrupted barrel rather than a separate mechanical component.

A Study in Hidden Engineering

Much of what makes the LAMY 2000 remarkable is difficult to see at first glance. Small metal ears positioned between the barrel and section engage the snap cap. The piston mechanism disappears into the body. The nib is largely hidden beneath the section. Material transitions are carefully brushed so that resin and metal visually flow into one another.

This quiet engineering is central to the character of the pen. Instead of displaying its complexity, the LAMY 2000 conceals it, allowing the finished object to appear simpler than the mechanisms required to create it.

Collector Perspective

Limited and special color editions of the LAMY 2000 are relatively uncommon compared with the continuously produced black model, making each departure from the original palette especially noticeable to collectors. The Pine Green release is particularly appealing because it changes the visual character of the pen without altering the fundamental design that made the LAMY 2000 an icon.

Rather than turning the pen into something overtly decorative, the dark green finish remains faithful to the model's restrained aesthetic. For collectors of modern industrial design, LAMY limited editions, or the LAMY 2000 itself, the Pine offers a distinctive variation on a design that has remained remarkably consistent for generations.

Lamy 2000 Pine Limited Edition

I first saw the pine 2000 at the Colorado Pen Show but couldn’t justify dropping $540 on it. As I saw it go out of stock at several pen vendors, I noticed that Truphae had it in stock and in all nib variants. I picked up a medium and scored $70 dollars for FPD. I love the subdued dark color and the pen is wonderful. The packaging is incredible and well conceived. If you are a Lamy 2000 lover and have the discretionary funds to blow, it is a fantastic addition to your pen collection. Truphae packaged the pen very well and I could not tell they opened the packaging to perform a nib swap.

It's a Lamy 2000 LE in Pine Green! Fine nib. I purchased mine on impulse at the Colorado Pen Show - no regrets. Chris was very helpful. I received my limited edition box shortly afterwards.

Lamy 2000 LE2024 Pine Green - still waiting for box

Love the Lamy 2000 Limited Edition 2024 Pine Green - purchased at Colorado Pen Show. Chris and Cary were extremely helpful and addressed all my questions as I stressed about the purchase. Pen is wonderful and is in the sweet spot for me - huge fan of the 2000 and the color green. No brainer. Went with a bold nib and a stub grind from Matt Chen.

BUT… have not received the Limited Edition Gift box. Waiting for a response.
