LAMY ABC Fountain Pen

I collect starter fountain pens, and at first I thought the term was for inexpensive pens that adults might buy to see if they liked using a fountain pen. Well, I was mistaken in that it also includes pens not necessarily designed to sell at a low price, but actually designed for children in school just starting their lifetime of writing. They're learning the basics of not just simple printing the alphabet and their name, etc., they're also learning to write cursively and using ink pens. I've never been aware of any school system in the U.S. doing this type of training (perhaps in some private schools?), but in many places around the world the children are educated to actually learn to write in all forms and in using "fountain pens." How civilized is that? I wish I'd gone to a school that at least attempted that, but actually I was blessed by being born at a time when true handwriting was not only thoroughly taught, it was required and graded! I don't know any young ones today who would even comprehend that idea! Regardless, the different suppliers of fountain pens in other parts of the world offer "school" fountain pens, and the Lamy "ABC" pen is on that list. This is a very unique and actually beautiful little fountain pen, made of hardwood and modern plastics. Although the pen is short (for young hands) it feels comfortable for my grown-up manly hand to hold, and I prefer to use my pens not-posted. It comes designed with the almost "de rigueur" triangular "grip" at the base of the section so that little hands learn to grip the pen properly, and I admit that I place just my index finger on the upper-most face of the grip when writing, and it really does help to keep the pen correctly oriented for optimal ink flow onto the page. The pen's barrel is completely smooth and perfectly finished hardwood in a pleasant neutral stain. At the top of the pen there's cube of molded plastic that is color matched to the grip of the pen. The cube has large indentations on each side of the cube, which I've found make it extremely easy to retrieve the pen from many positions by simply "pinching" the cube between your thumb and index finger. The cube also serves to keep the pen from rolling away, and that really helps when you might be at an age where that circumstance might not occur to you until the pen has rolled off of your desk and landed nib-first on the hard floor. Speaking of nibs, this pen also comes with the European-style "A" nib, which is a designated I.D. for a starter nib for those learning to use a fountain pen. One of its attributes are strength for no matter how hard a little one might push down on the paper. This nib flows with enough generosity that it really doesn't experience hard starts, which might discourage a new writer, yet it does so without flooding the page and ruining your homework assignment. It takes standard Lamy ink cartridges and is extremely easy to re-ink. This handsome and very basic little fountain pen actually writes very well, leaving what is to my eye a bold, but clean "medium" line of script. I love this "school pen" and all of the little brothers and sisters that the different brands offer. Highly recommended for its pleasant and fun nature!

I didn't actually use it I sent it straight to my grandson for Christmas he should be getting it hopefully today I will let you know but from what I seen it was an excellent shape and

Bought for my son, to try and help him learn to write properly & not use a pen as a chisel. He loves it & really does seem to help him form the right hand shape and modulate pressure (at least a little - he's got a way to go yet :)
