The Montegrappa Extra 1930 Verses Limited Edition Fountain Pen turns the traditional Extra silhouette into a meditation on language itself. Built around dark Vinum Atrum Montegrappite and engraved sterling silver, the pen carries phrases associated with Horace, Seneca, and Cicero, linking the physical act of writing to some of the most enduring ideas in classical literature.
The cap and barrel are formed from Vinum Atrum Montegrappite, an artisanal resin with deep burgundy veining that gives each pen a slightly different appearance. Sterling-silver trim provides a brighter counterpoint to the dark body and serves as the canvas for the edition’s engraved Latin phrases. Rather than using quotation as surface decoration alone, the design integrates the text into the architecture of the pen, making the literary theme visible every time it is handled.
This example is fitted with a two-tone 18k gold Medium nib and an ebonite feed. The piston filling system is integrated into the barrel, providing a traditional self-filling mechanism appropriate to the Extra 1930 platform. The large body, substantial section, and soft visual warmth of the Montegrappite give the pen the feel of a collector piece that was still designed to be written with regularly.
The fountain-pen edition of Extra Verses was limited to only 250 pieces, making it substantially scarcer than regular-production Extra models. Its appeal comes from the intersection of Montegrappa’s classic Extra architecture, a distinctive resin material, and a theme rooted in classical literature rather than a purely decorative motif. Preserved here in New Old Stock condition with original boxes and papers, this example retains the presentation expected of a numbered Montegrappa collector edition.
