The Montegrappa Extra Otto Zebra Celluloid Fountain Pen takes the material language of the classic Extra family and reshapes it around an eight-sided body. Black-and-white Zebra celluloid gives the pen a bold, almost architectural appearance, while sterling-silver appointments preserve the traditional Italian luxury cues that define Montegrappa’s higher-end writing instruments.
The Extra Otto’s octagonal profile is central to its identity. Each flat surface catches light differently, emphasizing the horizontal white striations running through the darker celluloid. Genuine celluloid gives the pattern depth rather than a printed appearance, and natural variation means no two examples are perfectly alike. Sterling-silver trim, including the broad cap band and roller clip, provides a crisp metallic frame for the graphic body material.
The pen is fitted with an 18k gold nib and an ebonite feed, paired with a piston filling system. This single pen may be supplied in Fine, Medium, or 1.1mm Stub configuration, giving the eventual owner the ability to choose a writing character that suits the pen’s substantial proportions. The octagonal body remains comfortably rounded at the section, so the visual geometry does not compromise the grip.
The Extra Otto Zebra was produced in a limited edition of 888 pieces in its color, placing it firmly on the collector side of the Extra family. Its appeal is particularly strong for enthusiasts who value discontinued Italian celluloid, since the Zebra material is visually distinctive even among Montegrappa’s more dramatic finishes. This example survives in New Old Stock condition with original boxes and papers.
