The Pelikan Souverän M805 Raden Royal Platinum Fountain Pen is a visually breathtaking and highly collectible limited edition from one of Pelikan’s most esteemed series. Released in 2018 as a celebration of traditional Japanese lacquer craftsmanship applied to Pelikan’s flagship Souverän platform, this edition unites Western engineering with Eastern decorative arts to create a functional work of art.

Crafted using the traditional Japanese Raden technique, the pen’s surface begins with a deep black Urushi lacquer finish. Thin strips of precious shell material — typically from mother of pearl — are individually placed into the surface, and platinum foil accents are meticulously applied behind the shell particles before sealing everything with additional lacquer. The result is a stunning play of iridescent light and cool metallic shimmer across the barrel and cap that shifts with every angle. Because the shell inlay and foil are applied by hand, every piece is visually unique.

Accenting the dramatic body are elegant palladium-plated trims including the double cap bands, distinctive pelican beak clip, and the cap top emblem — all in harmony with the tone of the design. Each fountain pen is individually signed and numbered, reflecting its place in the limited edition of 388 pieces worldwide.

For writing performance, Pelikan outfitted the M805 Royal Platinum with a fully rhodium-plated 18K gold nib that delivers smooth, consistent ink flow and expressive line quality across nib sizes from Extra Fine through Broad.
