The Platinum 3776 Century Fountain Pen in Bourgogne & Gold showcases one of the most iconic colorways in Platinum's modern collection. Named after the renowned Burgundy region of France, the deep translucent wine-red resin brings warmth, richness, and visual depth to a writing instrument already celebrated for its engineering and writing performance. Paired with gold-plated trim, the Bourgogne & Gold embodies a timeless aesthetic that feels equally appropriate in a professional setting, personal journal, or fountain pen collection.
As Platinum's flagship fountain pen series, the 3776 Century was developed to represent the company's vision of the ideal writing instrument. Its combination of refined craftsmanship, practical innovation, and exceptional nib performance has earned it a place among the most respected gold-nib fountain pens available today.
Craftsmanship & Design
The translucent Bourgogne resin reveals subtle layers of crimson and garnet beneath its polished surface, creating a finish that changes character as light passes through the material. Unlike a solid-color resin, the depth of the material adds visual complexity while maintaining the understated elegance that defines the 3776 Century collection.
Gold-plated trim enhances the warmth of the Bourgogne finish, creating a classic combination that recalls traditional fountain pen design while remaining distinctly modern. The cigar-shaped profile offers balanced proportions and comfortable ergonomics, while transparent elements throughout the barrel subtly reveal the pen's internal structure.
One of the defining features of the 3776 Century is Platinum's proprietary Slip & Seal cap mechanism. Designed to dramatically reduce ink evaporation, this innovative system helps ensure the pen remains ready to write even after months of inactivity, making it particularly appealing to enthusiasts who rotate between multiple pens.
Writing Experience
At the heart of the Bourgogne & Gold is a handcrafted 14-karat gold nib manufactured in Japan. Platinum nibs are known for their precision, consistency, and distinctive tactile feedback. Rather than feeling overly polished, they provide a controlled writing experience that allows the writer to maintain excellent awareness of the page while enjoying reliable ink flow.
The pen's lightweight construction and thoughtful balance make it comfortable during extended writing sessions. Whether used for note-taking, journaling, correspondence, or professional work, the 3776 Century delivers a writing experience that emphasizes control, reliability, and refinement.
Platinum Heritage
Founded in 1919, Platinum Pen Co. has spent more than a century advancing the art of fountain pen manufacturing. The 3776 name references the elevation of Mount Fuji, symbolizing Platinum's pursuit of excellence and its ambition to create a fountain pen that represents the peak of its craftsmanship.
Today, the 3776 Century remains one of the most influential and widely respected Japanese fountain pens. The Bourgogne & Gold model exemplifies the collection's enduring appeal through its combination of elegant design, practical engineering, and exceptional writing performance.

I was drawn to the color of the pen in the photos. In my hand, the transparent burgundy is beautiful, and the gold trim accents it really well. I decided to order it with the Ultra Extra Fine nib. I enjoy writing with Extra Fine nibs, including those from Japanese brands, though I was a little nervous about how fine this one might feel. When I inked it and started writing, I was pleasantly surprised. It feels like writing with a freshly sharpened pencil. You get some feedback, but it isn’t scratchy. That’s really about the nib, though. The pen itself is gorgeous and I really like it.
I bought this when Truphae had a flash sale, and I loved the look of the pen. So I made an impulse purchase; I don’t regret it. I charged her up with a Lamy dark green ink, and writing with the pen is like gliding on an ice rink. Good ink flow, Great Pen. I love working with Truphae.
I instantly fell in love with this pen when i began to write with it for the first time. Its a great pen very well balanced, writes very smooth and consistent I honestly can't complain about this pen instantly my new favorite pen. Thanks again to the guys at Truphae for their excellent service.
