The Montblanc Meisterstuck 166R Bordeaux Document Marker brings the familiar elegance of the Meisterstuck collection to a less commonly encountered writing instrument. Its deep burgundy resin and gold-plated detailing give document review the same considered appearance as handwritten correspondence. For collectors assembling a coordinated Bordeaux set, it offers a distinctive companion to the collection’s fountain pens, ballpoints and pencils.
Craftsmanship & Design
The cap and barrel are crafted from Bordeaux precious resin, a rich wine-red alternative to Montblanc’s traditional black. Gold-plated rings and clip provide a warm contrast, while the white Montblanc emblem at the cap crown completes the recognizable design. The rounded profile carries the visual language of the LeGrand family into a practical desk accessory.
The appeal of this finish lies in its restraint. Color and polished trim provide the decoration, allowing the proportions and recognizable Meisterstuck details to remain central. On a desk or beside a matching writing instrument, the Bordeaux and gold combination creates a coherent presentation without elaborate engraving or an oversized commemorative motif.
Marking Experience
The 166R is a refillable document marker designed for highlighting passages, annotating reading material and organizing documents by emphasis. It accepts the appropriate Montblanc Document Marker refill, allowing the consumable writing component to be replaced while retaining the instrument itself. Montblanc lists dedicated document-marker refills separately from its ballpoint and rollerball refills; selecting the correct refill type is essential.
For readers, researchers and anyone who spends time reviewing printed material, the format brings a familiar part of the working day into a more substantial writing collection. It is equally relevant to an enthusiast who appreciates unusual functional variations within an established design family.
Collector Context
The Bordeaux 166R is no longer in production. Its combination of a discontinued colorway and the document-marker format gives it a specific place within the broader Meisterstuck range. Collectors seeking examples beyond the best-known pen models can appreciate it both as a usable accessory and as a record of Montblanc’s wider approach to the coordinated writing set.
