The AP Limited Editions Urushi Lacquer Art Fountain Pen - Volcanic Night (Piece Unique) uses a deliberately textured black urushi surface as the foundation for flashes of multicolored sparkle. The result feels less like a polished lacquer panel and more like cooled volcanic rock catching points of light.

Urushi Finish

The surface is created in an Ishiji-style treatment, an urushi technique associated with an intentionally uneven, stone-like texture. Rather than sanding the body to a completely smooth gloss, the finish preserves a granular, tactile character that gives the black lacquer unusual visual depth. Multicolored sparkles appear across that dark terrain as the pen moves through light, creating a contrast between rugged texture and luminous detail.

Piece Unique

This example is a one-of-one Piece Unique rather than a repeat production colorway. That singular status, combined with the textured lacquer treatment, gives it a distinct place within AP Limited Editions' urushi work.
