AP Limited Editions Writer Maki-e Fountain Pen – The Pancha Mukhi Ganesha

The Pancha Mukhi Ganesha is a commanding interpretation of divine symbolism rendered in luminous maki-e. Five-faced Ganesha — the remover of obstacles and embodiment of wisdom, protection, and balance — is depicted here in extraordinary sculptural depth, rising from a radiant field of red and gold.

This is relief, dimension, and reverence layered in lacquer.

A Sculptural Maki-e Composition

At the center of the barrel stands Pancha Mukhi Ganesha, masterfully built through layered gold powders and raised lacquer techniques. The five faces emerge with remarkable dimensionality:

  • A central serene gaze beneath an ornate crown

  • Flanking profiles suggesting omnidirectional awareness

  • Finely detailed tusks and trunk flowing downward in elegant curvature

  • Intricate ornamentation highlighted in vermilion and subtle emerald accents

The gold work is textured and warm, creating a near-metallic sculptural presence against the high-gloss crimson background.

The red lacquer panel is framed with architectural gold arches, giving the composition the feeling of a temple niche — sacred, deliberate, and balanced.

Red and Gold Sovereignty

The pen’s body is bathed in a rich, saturated red lacquer — polished to a deep gloss that contrasts beautifully with the raised gold relief.

Above and below the central deity panel, warm gold lacquer transitions create visual grounding, giving the piece weight and majesty.

The cap continues the theme with:

  • A red lacquered clip adorned with fine gold detailing

  • Decorative cross motifs in green and red lacquer against gold fields

  • Architectural symmetry echoing sacred ornamentation

The effect is ceremonial without being overstated.

Raden Crown & Finial Detail

The finial is crowned with a striking mosaic of iridescent raden — deep blues, greens, and violets shifting with movement. The layered shell fragments create a jeweled halo effect, framing the gold AP insignia at the center.

This luminous top detail adds celestial contrast to the warmth of the barrel and reinforces the spiritual narrative of the piece.

Mastery of Technique

The artistry reflects advanced maki-e craftsmanship:

  • Raised relief (taka maki-e) for dimensional deity rendering

  • Multiple layers of gold powder in varied densities

  • Hand-painted lacquer detailing for facial features and ornament

  • Carefully polished gloss layers sealing the composition

  • Precision raden inlay at the finial

The result is a surface that is visually complex yet flawlessly smooth to the touch.

Writer Silhouette

The clean cylindrical form of the Writer model allows the sacred imagery to remain uninterrupted and centered.

When capped, the pen maintains compositional balance — the gold and red fields aligning seamlessly across the barrel break.

Writing Performance

Fitted with a 14K gold nib engraved with the AP insignia, the Pancha Mukhi Ganesha offers fluid, balanced writing performance worthy of its presence.

Cartridge/converter filling system ensures ease of use beneath its ceremonial exterior.
