The Conklin 1898 Stabilized Wood Fountain Pen - Matte Purple combines the 1898 silhouette with natural wood that has been infused with resin for greater durability and dimensional stability. The treatment preserves the organic grain while strengthening the material, meaning every pen carries its own pattern and subtle color variation.

Craftsmanship & Design

Stabilization fills the pores of the wood with resin before curing, reducing the tendency to warp or crack while allowing the grain to remain visible. In Matte Purple, the purple treatment adds contemporary color without eliminating the material's natural structure. Chrome trim, the engraved 1898 cap band, and Conklin's rocker-style clip provide a polished contrast to the matte wood surface.

Writing Experience

The fountain pen is fitted with a #6 JoWo stainless steel nib and is available in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad, Omniflex, and 1.1mm Stub. A standard international cartridge/threaded converter system makes refilling straightforward and keeps the pen compatible with a wide range of bottled inks and cartridges.

Collector Perspective

The Stabilized Wood series is a limited edition of 1,898 pieces, a number chosen to echo Conklin's founding year. Because the grain of every wood blank differs, the edition combines a fixed production number with genuine material variation from pen to pen.
