Swirls of black, charcoal, silver, and stone grey move through polished German ebonite, creating a finish that recalls meteorite surfaces, orbital shadows, and the visual depth of space.
A Collaboration Rooted in Space History
Accutron's electronic tuning-fork watches became closely associated with the American space program during the 1960s, while Esterbrook carries its own history of American writing innovation. Their Astronaut collaboration uses those parallel legacies to create a pen centered on exploration, precision, and technical design.
German SEM Ebonite
The cap and barrel are made from black and charcoal blended SEM ebonite. Ebonite, a hardened rubber historically used in early fountain pens, can be polished to a deep piano-like sheen while retaining warmer tactile qualities than acrylic. Natural variation in the marbling makes each pen visually distinct.
Space-Inspired Details
Black-plated trim keeps the palette monochromatic, while a custom cap band incorporates the Astronaut identity and space-themed decoration. A dedicated polishing cloth bears the Accutron tuning-fork symbol on one side and Esterbrook's Eternity mark on the other.
