That was what I asked myself while reading reviews prior to subscribing. I’ve rated the subscription at 5 stars (I have 3 months at the $30 level, and 1 month at the $80 level), but not because the specific pens and inks each knocked it out of the park. They didn’t. First, each box has been a fair value, which means if I had just purchased the pen and ink on Truphae I would have paid more than the subscription. Second, at least one of the inks and one of the pens, for me, were duds, which means I won’t be regularly using them. What was/is valuable in the subscription is what I’ve learned about what I like and don’t like about using specific pens and inks (what you see on the screen and how they write can be miles apart). I’ve also learned how to adjust my pens (all four have needed at least a little tweak) and how some inks just don’t work with some nibs/pens. I’ve also learned that what I value most is how the pen feels in my hand, the smoothness/feedback of the nib, how the ink lays down on the paper, and the saturation level of the ink with different nibs. Hope my experience helps you with your decision.
I need fine or extra fine tips and this pen was not. It just didn’t feel good in the hand either. Love this ink though!
This was my first month receiving the box and the anticipation of what I would get was so fun! I ended up getting a mid tier Lamy which is not my favorite brand but that’s ok. I should’ve been more specific with my preferences. And I got a full sized bottle of a gryffindor red, which is nice because I did ask for no yellows or blacks or blues. I made sure to specify for my next boxes no more Lamy pens. All in all I think it was totally worth it! I will continue my subscription now that I made it clear no Lamy pens. Can’t wait for next months box!
I was so excited to receive a Conklin pen! What a great subscription box.
Great way to show the fountain pen enthusiast in your life that you appreciate them.
