The Montblanc Meisterstuck 146DV Burgundy & Vermeil LeGrand Fountain Pen combines one of Montblanc’s most elegant late-20th-century color schemes with the substantial piston-filled 146 format. A deep burgundy resin barrel is paired with a vermeil cap—sterling silver overlaid with gold—creating a warmer and more distinctive alternative to the standard black-and-gold Meisterstuck.

Craftsmanship & Design

The pen’s burgundy precious-resin barrel is complemented by a gold-over-sterling-silver cap with fine vertical pinstriping. Gold-toned trim ties the two materials together, while the white Montblanc emblem remains framed by the rich burgundy and vermeil palette. The result is a formal, highly recognizable LeGrand configuration with considerably more visual depth than the standard resin model.

This Burgundy & Vermeil family was discontinued around the turn of the millennium, and complete unused examples have become increasingly difficult to source.

Writing Experience

This example is fitted with an 18k gold Medium nib. The Medium point offers a smooth, expressive everyday line suited to correspondence and longer writing sessions. Montblanc’s integrated piston mechanism draws ink directly from a bottle and provides the generous capacity associated with the LeGrand format.

Collector Significance

True New Old Stock examples of the Burgundy & Vermeil 146DV are particularly desirable because vermeil surfaces and burgundy resin both show handling wear readily over time. An unused example preserves the finish, trim, and presentation much closer to their original state.
