Homer (Homerus) is the name ascribed by ancient Greeks to the legendary author of the Iliad and the Odyssey, two epic poems that are the central works of ancient Greek literature. Homer's work mark a unique period in Western history, when the old oral tradition gave way to new written tradition. The Greeks had mastered the written word by about 800 BC.

The Iliad is both the earliest example of Western Poetry and one of the most important works of world literature. The Iliad is set during the Trojan War, the ten-year siege of the city of Troy by coalition of Greek kingdoms. It focuses on a quarrel between King Agamemnon and the warrior Achilles lasting a few weeks during the last year of the war.

The Odyssey focuses on the journey home of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, after the fall of Troy. The Montblanc Homer Writers Edition takes its main inspiration from the story of the Trojan horse.

This Writer's Edition takes its main inspiration from the story of the Trojan Horse. The overall shape is inspired by the horse, with the back and the clip reflecting the spear. The engraving on the cone and rings borrows motifs from traditional Greek black-figured pottery. The coral color of the barrel also takes inspiration from pottery, while the engraved pattern on the cap is inspired by the armor of Achilles - the central figure of the Iliad.

The Trojan Horse, Odysseus' famous stratagem, is reflected in the edition's remarkable silhouette and engravings. A stylized Montblanc Au 750 champagne-tone gold coated head of a horse is set on the 149 sized nib (same size as Montblanc Hemingway and Dumas). The finely engraved Greek meander frieze on the Au 750 champagne-tone gold coated fittings of the Writers Edition Homage to Iliad 1581 is inspired by the six-foot structure of the hexameter. The edition is crowned by the Montblanc emblem in mother-of-pearl. This edition is limited to 1581 pieces worldwide in honour to the first translation of ten books of the Iliad into english language in 1581.
