The Nakaya Long Cigar Midori Fountain Pen pairs one of Nakaya's longest clipless silhouettes with a vivid green urushi finish inspired by evergreen leaves. The Cigar Long format is intentionally elongated and minimal, allowing the lacquer itself to define the pen's character without the interruption of a clip.
Midori Urushi
Nakaya describes Midori as a green developed to evoke evergreen foliage. Blue-family colors are especially difficult to achieve consistently in urushi, making the clean, glossy green of Midori a distinctive finish within Nakaya's solid-color palette. As with natural urushi, the surface can continue to gain depth and transparency over time, allowing the color to develop rather than remain visually static.
The Long Cigar Form
The Long Cigar is Nakaya's longest standard clipless model. Its cylindrical ebonite body is shaped for extended writing and finished by hand in urushi. The absence of a clip keeps the silhouette uninterrupted and places visual emphasis on the lacquered surface.
Nakaya's current specification for the Cigar Long lists a length of approximately 170 mm, a diameter of approximately 15 mm, and a weight of about 25 g. Those proportions give the pen substantial length without excessive weight, preserving the balance that makes Nakaya's ebonite pens comfortable despite their visual presence.
Writing Experience
This example is fitted with a 14K gold Broad nib. Nakaya's nibs are based on Platinum architecture and are individually adjusted as part of the brand's writing-focused approach, making nib feel an integral part of the pen rather than an interchangeable afterthought.
