This is a Namiki Emperor maki-e fountain pen, made by the maki-e artist Yutaka in Japan in early 2015. He used the Togidashi-Taka Maki-e technique (burnished-raised maki-e) and Rankaku (quail shells) to create this masterpiece. The pen has a huge #50 nib made of 18k gold. The barrel can hold a lot of ink, which you can fill with an eyedropper. The pen comes in a wooden box with a bottle of ink.

The owl, or "Fukuro", is a symbol of luck and protection in Japanese culture. It can help you avoid hardship or suffering. The pen has two owls on it, made with Rankaku Maki-e. This is a special technique that uses quail shell powder or pieces to make the patterns. They are covered with lacquer and then polished to show the design. The eyes of the owls are made with Raden technique, which uses thin layers of abalone shells. They are cut into small pieces and fixed with lacquer. Then they are polished to make them shine. The pen has a glossy finish with clear lacquer on top. The Rankaku artwork is amazing and very detailed.

The Raden technique is a different technique that uses abalone shells to make the patterns. They are peeled into thin layers and cut into small pieces.
