The Parker Duofold Mark I Mechanical Pencil - Black and Gold belongs to the first generation of Parker's modern Duofold revival. Its polished black acrylic, gold-plated arrow clip, and plain black crown insert reflect the collection before the later Mark II redesign introduced a dedicated Duofold medallion.
The Modern Duofold Revival
Parker returned the Duofold name to regular production in the late 1980s, drawing inspiration from the bold presence of the original 1920s pens while creating an entirely modern writing system. The first generation established the stepped crown, substantial acrylic body, and broad gold-plated trim that became signatures of the revived collection.
The plain crown is a useful collector detail. When placed beside the later Mark II pencil, it reveals how Parker gradually strengthened the visual branding of the Duofold through changes that were small in scale but important in identification.
Writing Experience
The 0.7mm mechanism offers a practical graphite line for notes, calculations, and everyday writing. Its larger body gives the pencil a more substantial feel than most slim mechanical pencils, while the tapered cone provides control close to the paper.
Collector Perspective
The Mark I pencil captures the modern Duofold at the beginning of its revival, before the crown medallion and later proportional refinements.
