All the convenience of a click rollerball but with the smooth writing experience of a fountain pen: introducing the Platinum Curidas retractable fountain pen!

In five attractive colors, the Curidas is pushing the fountain pen world forward with its new design. With its translucent clear resin barrel, you can see all the engineering that went into the Curidas. Instead of a traditional cap, the Curidas uses an internal seal to protect the nib and keep the ink from evaporating when retracted into the pen. The steel nib is available in extra-fine, fine, and medium sizes.

Curidas is a coined term created by combining the Japanese word Kuridasu referring to extending the pen tip and the word Curiosity. This new fountain pen was brought to life to fulfill people’s curiosity.

It accepts proprietary Platinum ink cartridges (one blue-black cartridge is included) or a Platinum converter (also included) to fill with bottled ink. A special clip removal tool is also included if you prefer to remove the silver clip.

Innovative, modern, beautiful

I gather there was an intense level of anticipation around this pen, a click (vanishing point) fountain pen priced far lower than the Pilot (and Namiki) versions. The mechanism is slick and seems solid, and after several weeks of use, carrying around, two airplane trips, there is no hint of link.

I prefer using it without the clip -- first, the pen is rather long, so you need a quite deep pocket to accommodate the clip. Second, although every user will differ, the clip is a bit present on writing, to me.

One initial (terrifying to pen merchants!) thought was, "why do I need any other pen?" I admit that I have a very practical (use-focussed) approach to fountain pens, and this one, as a vanishing point, it is great for use at work -- pick up, click, write is so much easier if one is doing that throughout the entire day.

The design is very modern -- almost science-fiction -- with transparent resin. The size is large, so if you prefer a larger pen for writing, it fits. The weight is not too heavy, not too light.

Finally, let me praise the exceptional, top-shelf, customer service here ! I received personal emails in response to a minor shipping hiccup (USPS's fault). It is great to buy from a small shop in America, rather than some massive entity....

Odd shape, great writer

I wanted to try a Platinum pen above the preppy/prefounte level and had the opportunity to try this. I wasn't sure about the long nock, but, wow, writing with this pen is awesome. I don't have any problem with the clip placement interfereing with my hand position. I'm ready to try a 3776!

Very cool pen!

I have never seen a retractable fountain pen. Yes, you can tell I'm still a newbie. Anyway, I was not sure what to do with this pen or how to fill out until I watched a video. Very well-designed! Is is made of a very smooth, light weight plastic and feels great in my hand. It writes so smoothly. This could be my next favorite daily pen. I also love that it has a clip so I can attach it to my lanyard.

Bravo for the Curidas!

This pen has been very well thought out. Looking at the pen, one may think that it was just cobbled together to compete with the Pilot Capless pen. I am sure that may have been the intent, but it is not a cheap imitation. It is larger and lighter than Pilot. To insert the cartridge or converter is the same, but not difficult to manage. The nib is steel but you will not miss the gold nib. It is smooth and responds very well. There is no flex. But that is not a concern. It uses the standard Platinum converter and cartridge.

Pilot just released the LS version of the Capless. It is gorgeous. However, it is 3X the price of the Curidas. If you want bling, get the Pilot. If you want a pen that functions excellently without the bling, get the Curidas.

Big fan of Platinum

I wasn't sure about this vanishing point Curidas but I love Platinum pens so I ordered it. Very surprised by how much I love this pen. Putting in a cartridge is easy if you follow the directions. It writes every time no problem. So glad I took a chance. Would highly recommend this pen to anyone.
