The Platinum President Fountain Pen - Wine Red is one of Platinum's more substantial gold-nib models, pairing a deep wine-red resin body with gold-tone trim and a large two-tone 18k gold nib. Compared with the slimmer and more familiar #3776 Century, the President has greater visual presence and a broader, more formal profile without becoming excessively heavy.
Craftsmanship & Design
The Wine Red finish gives the resin body a restrained warmth that works naturally with the gold-tone appointments. A screw cap preserves the traditional fountain pen silhouette, while the larger proportions give the President a sense of substance in the hand. At approximately 142 mm closed and about 21 g, it remains comfortable for extended writing despite its more imposing appearance.
Writing Experience
The defining feature of this example is its 18k Ultra Extra Fine nib. Platinum is particularly well known for precise Japanese nib sizing, and an Ultra Extra Fine point is intended for very fine, controlled writing where line definition matters more than breadth. The cartridge/converter filling system supports both proprietary cartridges and bottled ink through a compatible converter.
Brand Heritage
The President occupies a distinct place in Platinum's fountain pen lineup because it combines traditional styling with a larger 18k nib and a more substantial body. For enthusiasts familiar with the #3776 Century, it offers a different expression of the same Japanese emphasis on precision, reliable ink delivery, and carefully controlled nib geometry.
