The S.T. Dupont Samourai Neo-Classique President LE 288 Fountain Pen is the scarcer and more elaborate expression of S.T. Dupont's Samurai theme, produced in a limited edition of just 288 pieces. Distinct from the broader 888-piece Samurai edition, the President version was conceived as a presentation-focused collectible built around the fountain pen, its sculptural stand, and an original katana-style letter opener.
The Neo-Classique President format gives S.T. Dupont a large surface on which to translate samurai armor into a writing instrument. Lacquered blue surfaces are combined with dimensional metalwork and gold-tone details, creating a pen that is intended to be read as a sculptural object as much as a functional fountain pen. The matching presentation stand extends that visual language beyond the pen itself and gives the set a ceremonial display presence.
The stand is not merely packaging. It is part of the presentation concept, allowing the fountain pen to be displayed vertically and giving the armor-inspired design a stronger relationship to the decorative objects and weapon stands associated with samurai material culture.
The design draws from the visual language of traditional Japanese samurai armor. Armor was not purely defensive equipment; it also communicated rank, allegiance, identity, and presence. Layered plates, cords, lacquered surfaces, and metal fittings created a highly recognizable silhouette that balanced practical construction with ceremony and symbolism.
That relationship between protection and presentation is reflected in the pen's sculptural treatment. The blue lacquer provides the dominant field, while gold-tone details emphasize the raised decorative elements in much the same way that metal fittings and contrasting components define the structure of historical armor. The result is not a literal miniature suit of armor, but a writing instrument that borrows its visual hierarchy from samurai equipment.
The original President presentation also included a katana-style letter opener. Its role in the set was important because the katana is inseparable from the popular image of the samurai, and its inclusion connected the writing instrument directly to the martial tradition that inspired the edition. The sculptural stand, fountain pen, and letter opener were therefore conceived as related components of one presentation rather than unrelated accessories.
The fountain pen is fitted with an 18k gold nib and uses a cartridge/converter filling system. That practical filling format allows the pen to remain usable as a writing instrument despite the complexity of its decorative construction, while the gold nib keeps the writing point consistent with the luxury positioning of the President edition.
S.T. Dupont produced the Samurai in two materially different limited editions: the broader 888-piece edition and this President / Prestige version of only 288 pieces. The lower production figure matters because the 288 edition was paired with the more elaborate presentation concept, including the sculptural stand and katana-style letter opener.
This example retains the fountain pen, original sculptural presentation stand, and large lacquer box. The original katana-style letter opener and papers are not included, so the set should not be considered complete. Even with that loss of completeness, it remains the scarcer 288-piece President edition rather than the standard 888-piece Samurai release.

Free Shipping: We offer free shipping for all U.S. orders over $20, including Alaska and Hawaii.
Standard Shipping Fee: For U.S. orders below $20, a flat shipping fee of $5.99 will be applied.
International Orders:
Shipping Rates: International shipping rates are calculated based on the weight of the package and the destination country.
Exclusions: Currently, we do not offer shipping to Russia and South Africa.
