The Wancher Sekai Aizu Urushi Ebony Fountain Pen pairs the restrained beauty of natural ebony with one of Japan's most enduring lacquer traditions. Rather than concealing the wood beneath an opaque surface, the finish allows its grain and tonal variation to remain part of the design, giving the pen a warmth and individuality that conventional resin cannot reproduce.
Aizu lacquerware developed in the Fukushima region and is known for the patient layering of natural urushi over carefully prepared objects. On this Sekai model, the lacquer enriches the ebony while preserving the character of the wood beneath it. The result is not a perfectly uniform industrial finish, but a surface with subtle changes in color, grain, and luster that reflect the materials and hand-finishing process.
Urushi is valued not only for its appearance but also for the visual depth it develops through repeated application and controlled curing. As the finish matures, the underlying wood can become more apparent, allowing the pen to gain character through use rather than remaining visually static.
The Sekai silhouette is clean and cylindrical, with flat ends and minimal ornamentation that keep attention on the ebony and lacquer. Its dark brown surface shifts toward near-black in lower light, while stronger light reveals the warmer grain beneath. This example is clipless, reinforcing the simple, tactile character of the design.
A #6 stainless-steel nib in Extra Fine provides a precise line suited to compact handwriting, detailed notes, and controlled everyday writing. The cartridge converter filling system accepts standard international cartridges and can also draw bottled ink through the included converter, offering practical flexibility within an otherwise highly artisanal pen.

Free Shipping: We offer free shipping for all U.S. orders over $20, including Alaska and Hawaii.
Standard Shipping Fee: For U.S. orders below $20, a flat shipping fee of $5.99 will be applied.
International Orders:

Exclusions: Currently, we do not offer shipping to Russia and South Africa.
